Top 10 Things About Things I Know That May or May Not Be True

Daily writing prompt
List 10 things you know to be absolutely certain.

I know a few things about a lot of things. Some things I am not so sure if I am right and others I am pretty sure I am not wrong. So here is a list of 10 of those things I am pretty sure I am not wrong about.

  1. Parenting is the hardest job in the world. I am a parent to 3 kids and while I have not done every other job it is the hardest one. Sure being a deep water driller or an astronaut comes with some levels of danger I think in comparison those jobs are simple. As a parent I have to keep my child alive, fed, and healthy. Keeping them alive seems easy but they are programed to try and kill themselves or at least severely injury themselves. My youngest will just jump off of things all the time, no matter the height just jump and expect it to be okay. Then you have to feed them, that means I have to work another full-time job to make money to buy food and then I have to spend time making that food so they will eat it. I could just buy fast food or cheap meals but I also have to keep them healthy so I buy fruits and vegetables and whole grains and high protein. I plan meals that have all the major food groups and I make fancy plates with fun meals. Still they refuse to eat or brush their teeth. They scream at you and tell you they wish you were dead or that they will cut your head off, with a knife. Then they do something sweet like say, “I happy, daddy.” and they read books and they start learning things and growing up and becoming fully-fledged members of the human race. The physical and emotional toll of being a parent too much. Biologically we should be able to handle it but I am pretty sure it is still the hardest job in the world but also the most rewarding.
  2. I am 100% sure that without any thought about the consequences that any major company that discovered they could resurrect dinosaurs would do it in a heartbeat. Regardless of the obvious problems we see in the 6 Jurassic Park movies they would just do it and say that they thought about that and don’t think it will be an issue. While I would believe that it would be better then a movie scripted to have the dinosaurs break out and start eating people I don’t think it would be much better. Currently we have zoos and animals get out all the time. Not always the dangerous ones but still big animals that are far from home and can still hurt people. So what makes anyone think that dinosaurs won’t do the same thing? Capitalism.
  3. I believe that people want to do good things, yes even those crazy right-wing fascists. They want to do the right thing but they just don’t know what the right thing is. Or they have been led to believe that the thing they are fighting against, which is usually just the option for people unlike them to exist, is some how evil. I think people want to hold onto power not just to be powerful and get lots of money but they think they are making the best choices or will make the best choices for others. Is that right? Hell no. No one person should strive for power because they think they are better then someone else. Power should be given to those who want to elevate and enlighten those around them. Governments should be built on an idea of assistance and support. Not Restrict and contain. That being said I do think that regulations put in place to assist and support are important but regulations put in place to restrict or contain or stop people from just being free citizens of the world are wrong. Good regulation: fines/punishment for harming another individual. Bad regulation: stopping someone from making a decision about their body.
  4. Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are too long and could have been 1 movie. Thanos wasn’t right he could have done any number of things with those gems and decided to erase half the universe. He could have created a universe with infinite energy sources. Or perhaps made it so all beings in the universe needed half as much resources to survive. He actually made it worse for the universe by making half of them just disappear. I am getting off topic though. The build up spent so much time talking about the stones but then we had to spend a whole movie getting the stones together. This is like the last Harry Potter shifting the script and making it about Horcruxes. If you actually planned this then make it work people. The stones should have been gathered in the 20 movies prior to Infinity War and then we could have just had a movie of them stopping Thanos and bringing everyone back. I get it let’s make money, yadda, yadda, yadda but that brings me to my next point.
  5. Disney is the worst company on the face of the planet. They are not major polluters like the oil companies or openly against basic human rights like some companies and countries. They are though built solidly on a foundation of ownership of all properties. The original design for Steamboat Willie, before Steamboat Willie/Mickey Mouse was a thing, Walt lost the rights to his first mouse to another company. So he built Walt Disney studios so he would never lose ownership of another property. He took free properties like Snow White, Cinderella, Pinocchio, and Robin Hood and created versions that became the definitive versions. Then he started buying up other properties. If you watch any Disney movie from the last 20 years you will know it is a Disney movie without really knowing because they all look and feel the same. They are the world’s evilest corporation squeezed into a cute little package.
  6. Most authors do not look for as much subtext as the reader takes from it when reading it. I think authors just like to write stories and sometimes they build it off an idea and the story creates its own subtext. Any author who says they made sure to include all of the subtext you are reading into a book is lying to you. You can’t know as an author how a certain storyline will sit with any one reader so it is impossible to put it all in there. Good stories resonate and build on themselves. Take Cujo for example, I don’t think everyone read into it a subtext of the love sons feel for their fathers no matter what. Or the distinction between the two fathers in the story and how their sons felt about them. It is there but did King know he was writing that story (probably not since he was high out of his f**king mind when he wrote it.).
  7. I think some of the mental load mothers put on themselves is self inflicted. You don’t have to think about some of those things all the time. Make a note and come back to it later. I know my wife thinks about more house and family things more often then I do, I don’t think she needs to worry about some of it as much or as often. Yes it is nice that someone remembers things, I remember things I just don’t think about it forever until it happens. Again, sometimes you need to be thinking about things in advance but you don’t need to fret or worry about it. I still get things done and I still think about the housework and the kids and all the things I just am able to shut it off sometimes and pretend that it doesn’t exist. I know I need to towels, sunscreen, change of clothes, snacks, and all other sorts of things when we go to the pool but I don’t need to think about that until we need to get ready for the pool, it is not important.
  8. I believe that sasquatch and other cryptids exist in some way shape or form. Just because I have no proof does not mean that it can’t be true. Same for aliens. I think of that scene from the Sopranos when the guy says, “what about fingerprints?” the other guys says, “Do they have everyone’s fingerprints in the world? No, they have nothing.” People point to a lot of things that are proof that these things don’t exist and I would like to point out we still have not seen the entire ocean and space is infinite. We don’t know everything and we should be open to the possibility that something like aliens or cryptids exist.
  9. TSA is a f***ing joke. I could elaborate but you should just watch the Adam ruins Everything episode about it.
  10. Have you ever thought that maybe there is just too much in the world? That the world is full of ridiculous things and no one seems to care about the things you care about? I don’t actually care about any of these 10 things all that much. To be honest I struggled with this list and feel like I should just erase it and move on to some other things for today. Truthfully though here are some things I know to be certain. One, we don’t have control over the world we only have control over ourselves and the impact we have on the world. Two, the amount of time we spend worrying about things will always be more than the amount of time we spend just enjoying life. Three, family are the people who want to be around you and care about you, not just the people who share the same lineage as you.

I of course could be wrong about all of these things, except the TSA thing that is a fact.
